Tarutung : The City that Grows from Durian Trees

The Dutch army planted a tarutung (durian) tree as a marker in front of the Regent's office complex and the Kodim complex.  The growing point of the tree is now located between Jalan Sisingamangaraja, the city's main road, and Jalan Ahmad Yani on the west bank of the city.

After the tree was quite large, the kings of the Silindung forest often came to the tree and talked under it.  Simultaneously, following the king, local residents began to sell produce there, so that the location grew into onan, a traditional market.

The durian tree then took over the function of the Hariara tree, as a center for social, economic, political and cultural activities for the Silindung Batak community.
The name "Tarutung" was then tabulated by the Dutch Colonial Government to be the name of the capital (center of government) Afdeling Bataklanden since 1915, after the Batak War.

Let's improve the literacy culture so that we can hone the ability to think critically, creatively and innovatively.  Especially in preserving the culture and history of Tarutung City.
